Word on the streets is that Harmonize might be planning to quit WCB. Judging from how he has drifted away from former best friend and boss….the rumors might just be true. Anyway in a recent interview done by Babu Tale on Wasafi FM, the manager goes on to laugh off at those comparing Harmonize to Diamond Platnumz. According to his point, there is no way the singer can compete with Diamond since all his projects have to go through him. Diamond Platnumz threatened by Harmonize? From the look of things, it appears that Harmonize has been drifting away from Wasafi records. Unlike before, the artist has not been attending any of Wasafi events and could be looking at a new records which he will be moving to. Anyway so far he has made a name for himself and even the likes of Wema Sepetu tend to believe that he is way better than Diamond Platnumz. In an interview done a while back Wema Sepetu opened up saying; Level ya Harmonize inamzidi ya Diamond, siwezi kusema ni kwa kiasi gani lakini inamzidi. Pia bidii zake naona akifika mbali sana.

Rayvanny’s baby mama, Fahima has touched on why she decided to convert from Muslim to Christian. Switch Speaking to Yo Fave, Fahima said that she became a Christian because of her grandmother was also a Christian. “Honestly, I have changed my religion. Sailors Gang, the boy group that became a household name after releasing Wamlambez and Pekejeng, is back with a new jam and it’s getting a lot of love from local music fans. Also read: Sailors Gang is back with another fire jam dubbed ‘Pekejeng’ (Video) Dubbed Queen B, the song praises lasses who are endowed with a bee-like figure i.e. what most people refer to as a Coca Cola shape. Do you get it? I hope you do. As expected, Miracle Baby, Shalkido, Masilver and Lexy Yung really came through with some dope verses in this jam. Well, you’ll only notice that if you don’t focus on the raunchiness of their lyrics. For one reason on the other, I was really impressed by Masilver’s lines. I have a feeling some of you might disagree with me but it is what it is. I feel he did better in Queen B than their two previous releases. This jam is very infectious. The part where Miracle Baby says, “Kako na Queen B machine sema Queen machine,” and then the others respond “uuuuuh Queen B machine” will stick on your mind the first time you listen to this jam. Dabonge style to the world! The video, which was directed by Irush, was also on point. They shoot location is a club and they picked some voluptuous vixens who can really twerk afterall that’s what the song is all about. I also loved the beat and how it blended with the lyrics. It has a dancehall vibe and at the same time it has a hint of Genge. At some point I almost thought I was listening to Boomba Train. Big up to Kwesh, the producer, he outdid himself. Watch Queen B here and tell us what you think.

H_art The Band makes good music but no one cares

There very few people who make good music in Kenya and when I say good I mean the kind that you would be totally comfortable listening to or watching with your an elder person, say your parents. H_art The Band, a group that is made up of Kenneth Muya, Wachira Gatama and Mordecai Kimeu, falls in this category. Their songs are not only enjoyable, they also reasonate with people across all ages – whether young or old. However, for one reason or the other, I feel like they are really underrated and unappreciated. If you ask anyone which songs by H_art The Band they know, most people will just mention Uliza Kiatu which was released 5 years ago so. The all-boy band has released so many songs after Uliza Kiatu – the song that thrust them into the limelight. Some of them are; Rosella, Love Phobic, Baby Love, Nikikutazama, Masheesha, Adabu, just to name a few. Do you know any of the aforementioned songs? Well, you might also not know is that they recently released a new album dubbed Made In The Streets. Were you aware of this? I guess not. I had a chance to listen to the 13-track album and I can tell you that it’s a masterpiece. I’m not even exaggerating. I will definitely review it one these fine days to get some of you to appreciate their craft. In as much as the new-age artists, who sing about the most random things, have taken over, that does not mean we should forget about beautiful music from H_art The Band and the likes. Enough said! Watch their latest jam with Victoria Kimani dubbed Bad Manners.

Why secular artists fail to make an impact after crossing to the gospel industry

$

If you are keen then I am sure you’ve noticed that most secular artists who cross over to the gospel industry after ‘getting saved’ don’t stay there for long but have you ever wondered why? I guess not. Today, we’ll look at some of the reasons why they don’t last long in the gospel industry. Firstly, getting saved means you have to live your life in a particular way and avoid some places that are perceived as ungodly like clubs – which is one of the places where most secular artists make a killing. The second aspect is industry mechanics. The secular and gospel industry operate differently. You might have a lot of connections to push your career as a secular artists but then when you cross over to the gospel industry you realize that those people can’t really help you. Also read: Are Kenyan gospel muscians asleep? The third aspect is too much expectations. There was a time when the gospel industry was doing better than the secular industry, so most of the people got saved thinking they would be laughing all the way to the bank but they soon came to realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Lastly, there’s the obvious fact that most of the people who cross over are not true to themselves. They are not really saved but they cross over because they have some hidden agendas or they want to be perceived in a certain way. In the end, they ‘backslide’ and leave people asking whether they were sincere about their intention in the first place. Were they really saved? If they were, then why did they fail to make an impact?

Kenyan artists need to think outside the box

$

The emergence of of the new crop of Kenyan musicians is good proof that all the players in the local entertainment industry should think outside the box. It is what it is. Also read: New age musicians are unpredictable and that’s the beauty of music Every time you listen to a song by Zzero Sufuri, Ochunglo Family, Sailors Gang, Boondocks Gang, Rico Gang and the likes you should remember that we would not be here today if Ethic didn’t look at music from a different perspective. For a long time, Kenya had a copy paste approach to music. Musicians would wait for the likes of Nonini, Jua Cali and Nameless to release a song then they would hit the studio and release a song that is similar to the ones by these artists. Back then, Genge and Kapuka were the in-thing. Funny enough, nobody thought they should invent a new sound and own it until Ethic came along with Lamba Lolo in 2018 and changed the game. Interestingly, the same thing is now happening with the Kenyan sound. Every artist, even the established ones, is now making music that you can tell borrows a lot from the sound that Ethic introduced us to. This is a good sign that most Kenyan artists are afraid of thinking outside the box. Instead of copying a sound that already exists why don’t they come up with a distinct sound that they can own? The Kenyan industry can only grow if we diversify i.e. have different approaches to music so that even the people who don’t feel the wamlambez and lamba lolo vibe can have something that they can listen to.

Ethic Vs Sailors Gang: Which group is the baddest?

$

People have been going crazy over Sailors Gang’s dubbed Wamlambez over the last few days and doing challenges where some says ‘Wamlambez’ and you reply ‘Wamyonyez’. You would be tempted to think the song was just released yet it came out in April. Also read: New-age musicians are giving established artists nightmares! It took me back to the day Ethic dropped Lamba Lolo and how it used to be played everywhere. From clubs,  local radio and TV stations, to gigs everyone had that song on repeat so much so that it seemed like a national anthem. Before long, other groups who had a similar music approach started emerging and then came Sailors Gang, a group that is made up of Miracle Baby, Shalkido, Lexxy Yung, Masilver and Qoqosjuma in April this year. The new kids on the block have taken over never mind the fact that its barely four months since they made their debut in the local entertainment scene. What they have achieved is impressive by any standards. You might hate me for this but sometimes I compare them with Ethic. You see, the Lamba Lolo hit makers released a new song in June, people spoke about it for a few weeks and it almost as if the hype died. The reason I’m saying this because Wamlambez, which was released in April, has more talkability than Ethic’s most recent release. It’s the new national anthem. The way I see it, this begs a lot of questions. One of the questions is, which group is the baddest between Ethic and Sailors Gang? Tell us below. Watch Sailors Gang’s latest release dubbed Queen B here.

Octopizzo Vs Khaligraph: Who will survive the new-age music revolution?

Truth be told, the new-age (new wave) Kenyan musicians are giving established musicians a run for their money, even the likes of Octopizzo and Khaligraph. Allow me to explain my line of thought. Also read: New-age musicians are giving established artists nightmares! At the end of the day, even if their music genres are different, they are competing for the same fanbase, which is you and I, and as you know there can only be one winner so it’s either the new age artists beat the established artists or vice versa. Both Octopizzo and Khaligraph were doing well before the emergence of new age artists because they were both releasing street music i.e. songs that are in Sheng and relate to the struggles that the ordinary person goes through. If you’re keen then I am sure you have noticed that Khaligraph has stayed the course. On the other hand, Octopizzo has veered off. In the recent past, he has has changed his style so much so that you would think that he no longer cares about his local fans. Both Octopizzo and Khaligraph have been trying to surmount the pressure that they are getting from new-age artist and it got to a point where they bowed to pressure. The way I see it they had no choice. If you listen to Octopizzo’s Zikishika, there is a verse where he drops lamba lolo. In Leave Me Alone, Khaligraph pays homage to Zzero Sufuri and the likes. As the saying goes, if you can’t beat them join them. This got me thinking, who between the two can survive the new-age music revolution because let’s be honest, these youngins have taken over. From the fans, to music streaming sites and YouTube to local TV and radio stations to gigs, all people waiting to...

Gospel singer Emmanuel Mwongela, alias Manolo – a former member of Recapp – is back with a new jam and it’s one for the books ladies and gentlemen, it really is. Dubbed Weka Juu, the song is all about how God can lift you up i.e. how he can change your life for the better and bring you out of oblivion. That’s pretty much it. I really love this jam. It’s the kind of songs that makes feel that all is not lost. It gives you hope that although things are not look good today, tomorrow will be different. Manolo really oudid himself on his third release after going solo. I also love the lyrics, simple yet impactful. Chances are you’ll listen to it two and that is not a bad thing or its? Manolo’s lyrics also blends in well with the instruments. It’s really perfect One of the things that stood out for me in this song is the video. I really loved the colour co-ordination and blocking. However this does not come as a surprise since it was directed by the one and only Sammy Dee of True D. The song was produced by Jegede at Pacho records and he also did a commendable job. The beat has a feel good vibe that makes you want to listen to the song over and over. Watch Weka Juu below and tell us what you think.

Kenyan artists have been working with their Tanzanian counterparts a lot more lately so much so that people who don’t like Bongo music, like yours truly, are starting to feel like it’s worth their time. Also read: 5 impossible music collabos we’d love to see before 2019 ends We’ve seen some impressive collabos between Tanzanian and Kenyan artists in the recent past. Some of the include; Timmy Tdat & Rosa Ree, Willy Paul and Nandy, Bahati and Rayvanny, Juma Jux and Nyashisnki and so on. In my opinion, we need to see more of these and that’s why I came up with a list of artists who I think should work together because why not? Also there’s the fact that it well grow East African music. That being said, here’s our wish list of collabos: 1. Nadia Mukami and Juma Jux – After watching their mash up of African Lover on Coke Studio, I think these two should get into studio like yesterday. 2. Rosa Ree and Khaligraph Jones – This collabo should have happened a long time ago. I mean why not? Both artists are bad-ass rappers and they would really kill it on one track. 3. Otile Brown & Vanessa Mdee – I’m not quite sure about this but something tells me that a collabo between them would be totally fire. I’m looking forward to the day they will give us a treat. 4. Arrow Bwoy and Rayvanny –  I live for the day these two musicians will release a song together. Thinking about it just gives me goosebumps. If a collabo between them comes to pass, it will be the biggest song of the year. 5. Nyashisnki and Nandy – I feel like a collabo between these two would be pure bliss. Nandy’s smooth vocals would really blend...

Every once in a while I come across some talented Kenyan artist and I feel the need to tell you, our readers, about them so that when their careers finally blow up you can also say you were there from the very beginning. Today, we’ll focus on Nelson Omambia Asaeli, popularly known as Keemlyf. He is one lad who is going places and believe you me it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a household name. The 21-year-old singer has been into music from the tender age of 10, this makes me think what I was doing with my life at that age. He grew up listening to the likes of P-Square, Redsan, Trey Songz and in a way that has shaped his sound today. When he joined high school, his love for music grew so much so that he composed his first song dubbed Dunia in Form 2. The song became popular and this gave motivated him to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. After clearing high school, Keemlyf released his first official song titled Banana. The song did well and earned him recognition as an upcoming Afro pop singer. He made us all realize that he was here to stay. About a fortnight ago, Keemlyf dropped a new single dubbed My Baibe and it has been getting a lot of love from his fans. The song which was produced by Rashy Beats at Alka Productions, is a clear indication that this guy didn’t come to play. Keep an eye out for him! Watch My Baibe below and tell us what you think.

Former M.O.G member Paul Onyango, alias Boss, has dropped a new jam and we are really feeling it. No, like really! Dubbed I’m Grateful, the new song talks about being thankful to God for the things that he has done in your life, it doesn’t matter whether they are small or big, you ought to appreciate. Boss really came through with his alto or is a baritone voice (I honestly can’t tell) in this jam. The song almost takes you back to the days when M.O.G was at the peak of their career. You’ll wish they never parted ways. I digress. I’m Grateful is a beautiful praise song, it is a song that all of us can relate to since we all have something to thank the man above for, whether it’s good health, a source of income, a family and whatnot. I really liked this jam. I won’t even lie. I, however, felt that that the the he said ‘I’m grateful’ too many times. Let’s just assume that he wanted to drive the point home or else we’d never forgive him for being so repetitive. The song was directed and produced by Bcamp Music which is owned by Boss and in my opinion, the execution was good. I particularly love the simple shoot location that they picked, is that a dam or a river? I have no idea. Watch I’m Grateful below and tell us what you think.

In the last two weeks we have seen the country lose Safaricom CEO the late Bob Collymore, Honorable Ken Okoth and just recently Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso to cancer. Indeed the country  has not only lost friends but leaders who were contributing to positive change in the community. With this, city pastor Godfrey Migwi has come out to urge people to pray against the monster (Cancer) which is robbing our society without any mercy. In his detailed post shared on Facebook, Migwi goes on to add that the government should consider giving cancer patients free treatment for both the rich and poor. Measures to deal with cancer As much as people are trying to avoid things that led to cancer, Migwi says KEBs should also be alert when allowing items/products that are for human consumption. With this, the number of cancer patients will reduce. He wrote saying;

Renowned media personality Caroline Mutoko is a mother of two! Yes, she recently revealed that she has a baby boy who is 1 year five months.   Speaking with speech therapist Lorna Muthamia Ochido in an interview don through her YouTube channel; Ms Mutoko goes on to reveal that she has a 17 months old (1 year five months) baby boy whose first words sister’s name ‘Kuku’ since he can’t pronounce Nduku. My housekeeper used to say that the first words my son would say are Nduku and I used to laugh at her. Sure enough when the boy uttered his first words, he said nduku as ‘kuku.’ Private life For those who have been keeping close tabs on Caroline Mutoko understand that she is one media personality who prefers to keep her personal life private. Caroline Mutoko rarely shares matters regarding her family and I bet this is why it has taken her quite a while to reveal that she has a son. Speaking through her YouTube channel Ms Mutoko once opened up saying; For some people, it’s a non-negotiable (sharing their personal life on social media), I am one of those people. It is not up for discussion and for me if you ask anyone who works in media like Caroline Mandi of True Love she will tell you that I am very clear, my home is off-limits. My home is not available and my circle of friends have the sort of lives and jobs that can’t afford nonsense and actually sometimes we both need plausible deniability to each other. So I don’t share that. I feel that sharing that leaves me very little in terms of places I could retreat to a cocoon or cave of love and understanding and just us-ness that has nothing to do with...
