Willy Paul has completely lost it, he’s really possessed!

I’ve always been a huge fan of Willy Paul. I’m one of the few people who has never been put off by his unbecoming behaviour until recently when he released a song that mocks Christianity titled Lamba Nyonyo. Just like his other die-hard fans, I have always dismissed his stunts as immaturity but what he released that song on Tuesday I was completely dumbfounded. Actually, part of me was shattered. You see, Willy Paul is really talented and this expains why he gets away with many things but for the first time in my life, many people, including yours truly, felt disgusted by him. In my opinion, the Tam Tam hitmaker has completetly lost it. I feel like his friends should reach out to him and help him in seeking divine intervention because this is beyond abnormality. People joke about it every now and then but Willy Paul might actually be possessed. It’s what it is. I don’t know what he needs to do but I know that he need to find himself before it’s too late. He needs to go back and trace his steps and remember what drew him to Christianity. But then again, maybe it’s too late, maybe he has reached a point of no return and it all goes downhill from this point. If that is then case then we are grateful for the great hits that he treated us to when he still had a purpose, when he could remember that his work was to win souls through his music. Watch Lamba Nyonyo below and tell us what you think.

Established artists need to learn from new-age artists

I know this sounds funny. It’s even backed by the saying ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’. I, however, feel that people who have been in the game for long can also borrow a leaf from the new crop of Kenyan artists because why not? Also read: You can’t resist the new-age music revolution We live in a digital age and somehow, these new age artists have discovered a way of making music that sparks organic conversations i.e. people talk about a song and undertake challenges even when nobody has asked them to. A good example is when Ethic, Ochunglo Family, Sailors Gang, Rico Gang and the likes release a song. The online chatter that it causes is always organic, even if you didn’t know that they have a song out, you will know because everyone on your timeline will be talking about it. I honestly feel that this is something that our established artists can learn from since it will save them the hassle of engaging in useless PR stunts just so that they can get people to talk about them and their new releases. I’m not saying that they should also do vulgar songs to get people’s attention. In my opinion they need to examine what these youngins are doing right and see how they can learn from it and use it to better themselves. The truth is that we live in a fast-paced world, if you can’t conform then people won’t care how good you are as a musician or how good you used to be, a new artist will take your place and most people will forget that you ever existed.

How Rosa Ree rescued Timmy Tdat’s music career

In my opinion, Timothy Owuor, alias Timmy Tdat has Rosa Ree to thank for salvaging his music careers because let’s be honest, the Wembe hit maker was done and dusted before she appeared out of the blue. Also read: It’s official, Timmy Tdat is back to his winning ways! For the most part of 2018, most people, including yours truly, felt like Timmy was just releasing songs for the sake of it. They were not only flat but also boring, even if you had the worst taste you could not stand that kind of music. Some of his diehard fans claimed that  his radio gig was taking a huge chunk of his time leaving him with very little time to go to studio. Maybe that’s true, maybe it’s not but the bottomline is that his career was going down the drain. Somewhere along the way, maybe after he came face to face with reality, Timmy quit his radio job and he decided to focus all his energy on resuscitating his music career which had really suffered. As the year began, he released Atekwe alongside Redsan and this marked the beginning of his resurrection. Before we knew it, he dropped another fire jam with Tanzanian rapper Rosa Ree dubbed Kipopo. A few weeks later, Rosa Ree featured him on the remix of her song titled Asante Baba and this marked the re-birth of Timmy. Most of us realised that he still has it in him and that we should never underestimate him. Rosa Ree managed to bring him out of his cocoon and this is evidenced by the fact that his most recent release dubbed Achika is getting massive airplay. As you listen to it, you’ll realise that he has become a better version of his old self. Timmy and Rosa Ree...

Buying YouTube views is slowing the growth of the local music industry

There was a time when buying YouTube views was the order of the day. Local musicians would release a song today and if you checked it the next day it had hundreds of thousands of views and almost hitting a million views. Also read: New-age musicians are giving established artists nightmares! I’m sure the practice still exists, it’s only that some of those accused decided to take a step back after being exposed. They realised that Kenyans were not as stupid as they thought i.e. we can tell if someone has bought views. You see, it very easy to tell if someone has bought views on YouTube because all you need to do is check the other interactions that the video has i.e. the likes, dislike and comments. If they don’t go hand in hand then something is definitely amiss. For instance it would be hard to explain how a video has a million views yet it only has 200 comments, 400 likes and 50 dislikes. The interaction doesn’t make sense if you compare it with the views because ideally comments and likes should be in the thousands for such a video. In the past, both Khaligraph Jones and Octopizzo have been accused of buying YouTube views. This was around the time when they were beefing over who is the King of Kenyan hip hop. I’m convinced that they stopped because we no longer see those crazy numbers. In a way, you could argue that buying YouTube views is slowing the growth of the local music industry because an artist wants to create this perception that they are hot on the streets so much so that they can garner a million views in a day yet they can’t pull crowds to a gig. Kenyan artists should remain true to themselves,...

The gospel industry needs to find a new sound

The gospel industry used to be big three years ago (or so) but somewhere along the way, it was overtaken by the secular industry but have you ever wondered why? What happened? Where did the rain start beating them? Also read: Are Kenyan gospel musicians asleep? Well, I think I have a few pointers as to why. I feel that the gospel industry has remained stagnant for a very long time, save for Willy Paul, everyone sounds the same way they did when the gospel industry was at its peak. Don’t they though? If there’s anything that I have learnt it’s that Kenyans get bored really fast. As such, artists have to find ways of making sure that whatever they are putting out is not monotonous. They need to switch up the sound every and then. You see, the reason why the secular industry is doing well at the moment is because there is a new sound. Some people might have concerns about it but the fact is that most people find it entertaining. The truth is also that Kenyans will get bored with it a few years down the line. The gospel sound has remained the same since time immemorial. Once in a while you’ll see someone taking a different approach but when they realise that it’s not working, they quickly switch back to their old styles and this should not be the case. In as much as gospel songs are all about praising God and winning back people to Christ, it doesn’t mean that they should not have a small element of entertainment. Gospel songs should not really be all about crying from the time the songs starts to the end. It’s about time our local gospel artists realized that we need something different. I don’t even know...

After ditching Otile Brown, Jovial drops new jam ‘Deejay’ and it’s a massive hit (Video)

Sultry singer Juliet Ayub Miriam, alias Jovial, has dropped a new jam days after ditching Otile Brown’s new record label Just In Love Music for David Guoro’s Hailemind Entertainment. Also read: We can’t get enough of Arrow Bwoy’s new collabo with Jovial (Video) The song dubbed Deejay is a dedication to her boyfriend Sammi Flinch, who works as a mixx master at Switch TV, and all other disc jockeys. Jovial really came through on this jam with her soothing voice that I wouldn’t mind listening to the whole day, even if it’s just a casual conversation. To add to that, she has this unique ability to vary her voice from melodic to almost coarse and believe you me it’s the best thing that could ever happen to a musician. The lyrics of the song are simple and you’ll probably master the whole song after listening to it twice, okay maybe thrice. Of course, you won’t fail to notice that she dropped lamba lolo a couple of times on this jam. In the chorus she says, “Nicheze kama lamba lolo, uweke kwa mutima wange kisha tudigi digi nicheze*3” Apart from the sexy video vixens, the other thing that struck me is how seductive Jovial is, especially when she was on the bar counter. I honestly could not get enough of her! The video, which was shot by the one and only Johnson Kyallo, was brilliantly executed. I, however, felt that it was a bit monotonous because it was only shot in the club but then again it’s a song about DJs. The audio was produced by Vicky Pon Dis and he also did an impressive job. The beat gives you a feeling that you need to hit the club and have a good time. If you asked me to rate this...

Why Coastal music barely gets any nationwide attention

$

Very few people cared about Coastal music until recently when Masauti, Otile Brown, Dogo Richie, Sudi Boy, Susumila, Chikuzee and the likes emerged on the music scene. Artists from the Coast operated in a cocoon for a long time so much so that very few people in the other parts of the country had a clue who they were but have you ever wondered why? Have you ever asked yourself why the artists and their songs barely get any nationwide attention? Well, I have some pointers as to why.   Firstly, there’s the obvious fact that almost all top media houses are based in Nairobi. This means that if an artist from the Coast has a new song, then he or she has to travel to the capital city to promote it. You could argue that artists don’t need the mainstream media because we are in the digital age but that’s a wrong perception. We live in a third world country, TV and radio will always be relevant. Secondly, artists from the Coast are not as aggressive as their counterparts in Nairobi. I’m sure you have also heard that people from Mombasa take things slowly, the same applies to the artists. They take so long to release a song and when they release it they don’t even bother to promote it because they are not  agile. That’s just it. The last reason is claims of sorcery. This might sound funny but it is real in the Coast. Artists are always blaming their counterparts of bewitching them and curtailing their growth. Sometime last year, Dogo Richie released a song dubbed Mziki Majanga in which he claimed that fellow musicians used juju on him so that he does not grow. Among those mentioned in the song were; Fat S, Susumila, Nyota Ndogo,...

Lava Lava is back this time with ‘Habibi’

Lava Lava is back with a new jam dubbed Habibi. The artist who is signed under Wasafi is doing wonders. He is on releasing spree and his songs are doing good. In less than 24 hours the audio has over 80k views. Relevance of ‘Habibi’ In this new single, Lava Lava mentions a few names in relation to Diamond. Nikupeleke kwa bibi Tiffah ama Dangote Uvae shehe la wigi  Utapata kwa Aristote. Habibi sounds more of a love song where the lady is supposed to be endorsed by the family. In between the song she is warned to keep off from some fellows. These love songs nowadays,Mchunge shetwani  Mama twende pole pole(Aah) Kuna Esma, Khan  Akina Juma Lokole(Aah). In this line Esma, and Mbosso Khan are mentioned. Is it a Wasafi affair? Also in this stanza;Wasikupande kichwani  Wakazua mambo ya uchochole(Aah) Iwe aibu mtaani  Insta michambo wanichore Achana naki naki Hawana lolote  Watazusha na wajigi jigi  Penzi watie tope. Lava Lava goes ahead to tell the girl Habibi not to listen to them because they will be all over Instagram and end up ruining their love. To start with the matter of the heart is becoming common with Wasafi artists. Habibi is well done and am sure you are going to love the lyrics. Actually it  is one of that song that you will grasp the lyrics fast. Production Also, we cannot forget the producer. It has been produced by Manstermadness of spice records. In addition to the good production work, the lyrics are dope. There is no competition the words are clear. What a talent! In conclusion, Lava Lava is someone to watch in the Wasafi Label. He is doing a good job. At this point I wish he does a collaboration with Otile Brown and Brown Mauzo.  Last...

Magix Enga together wwith Khaligraph Jones brings you Bami. This song is just a great with two big names. The OG is really doing great. Magix Enga known for his good production skills merges with Papa Jones after their last jam Shida last year. It is not often that we get to see a collaboration between a producer and a musician. Khaligraph Jones and Magix Enga have proved something new. Much is knownon what Khaligraph can do music wise but very little on Magix Enga as a musician. Bami is a very good jam ad the only way to weigh strengths of the duo is to get the message of this jam. The collab is Magix Enga’s first official single and music video under his new record label, Magix Empire. The talented producer is behind the audio production of Bami while the video is shot and directed by Deska Torres. Khaligraph has rapped in Luo in this jam making the comment section on youtube lit. Message in ‘Bami’ Ayiech Malich, Mkono Nika Za Bolo Yeung Kwala combi ya Nikki na Amber Lulu(Iyee) Naeza mchongea miti ka Shaka Zulu Navile anaongea fiti inakaa anaotea quickie Apo ukingojea Missy inakuwanga nduru(haha). Even though I am not conversant with Dholuo, I can atleast say he is comparing the girl with Mbolo Yeung and Amber Lulu. Quite funny!! Also in this line he describes the woman like one in need of a person to invest in her. Vile umejibeba, inakaa unataka investor Vile unapendeza, chupa ka Vydia Dester Miniskirt ya leather, kibenje Gucci texture Sifa kwa Ebenezer juu ya vile unatutesa(Omollo). Seems like this girl is very expensive it is all a designer deal. Lastly, the chorus will capture your attention. It goes like this; Oooh beiby gyal Stand up and whine your waist...

Q Chilla and Harmonize takes it again with the baddest hit ‘Go Low’

Go Low is a latest jam by the duo Harmonize and the lost legend Q Chilla. This song is a Swahili jam and it starts by introducing the duo. Isn’t it  an interesting way of selling the lost legend back? Harmonize takes the jam  mentioning them at the start. Q Chilla ends the song by sort of praising themselves.  Chilla na Makonde Yaani Chilla na Makonde  Eeeh eh na Makonde Yaani Chilla na Makonde. Relevance of ‘Go Low’ To start with, the set up of the lyrical song at first you might think it is praising Q Chilla. But as it continues it tends to be enumerating about love. This happens where Harmonize praises the physical outlook of a pretty girl.  ‘Mtoto ameumbwa kwa udongo Wa madina na makaa‘ a beautiful way of expressing beauty in an African girl. He goes ahead to tell her if we can term the imaginable beautiful girl how he could do all favors to her and also praises her walking style. This jam creates a very beautiful imaginable look of a girl who the song might have been dedicated to but we can’t tell.   The jam has attracted many funs of the Duo being their third collabo as it brings such a lovely possessive output ‘Mie kwako fyatu‘ should we call it loyalty? Which many Africans complain about in relationships. The song brings out a very funny obsession to a girl ‘Kifupi sibanduki nimenata nata Maneno sikumbuki mi nang’ata ng’ata Hivi na nyoa na sup, nafuga rasta Nachanganyikiwa nikikukapata‘ being praised of such unending beauty. Q Chilla and Harmonize brings out a picture of love in a very hidden but perfect lyrical meaning, thumbs up.   The choreography of the jam was also well done. A number of songs Harmonize has stuck to...

Radio host Maina Kageni has not married and is not planning to do it any time soon. Maina however, has a message for all the side chicks that want to become the main chick: don’t wait to be introduced, introduce yourself. Don’t wait Maina says a woman shouldn’t have to wait till his man dies so that he comes out. “Go to his shagz and make yourself known. What are you waiting for? Avoid all that drama when that nigga drops dead. I know of people and the father is so wealthy its ridiculous? If you are not known to his people what security do you have?” he said.  Adding: “Go to his sister’s office and make yourself known if need be. Those friends of mine, if I tell you who the father is you might faint. Because of how he looks like a holy joe in public.”  Maina went on to say crushing at the funeral is an old trick that doesn’t work anymore. “Popping up at a funeral is such an old trick, the family can easily deal with this. Get known by his family when he is still alive,” he said.

Gospel songstress, Ivlyn Mutua gives up Willy Paul after ´Lamba Nyonyo´ jam release. The ´Sham Sham´ singer who ditched secular for gospel, announced her exit with a decision to give a voice to those not able to talk about Jesus Christ. However, Fellow ´gospel´ artist so he maintains, Willy Paul barely days ago assured Kenyans that he still is in the Gospel industry but now hits back with an extremely ratchet secular song. Gospel beauty Ivlyn shares sentiments about the misdirected ´gospel´ singer who has been trending for all the wrong reasons. Speaking exclusively on Milele FM, she detests the most recent ´Lamba Nyonyo´ song which she reveals her blood does not jell with at all! According to her, it is very disrespectful to God, who should be highly feared by all humanity because when he strikes back, he means real business. Further articulating that Pozze´s latest release is a total mess and if at all he loves his secular music, then he should come out and make his stand to the public, just like she did. Pozze´s legacy Furthermore, Ivlyn believes there are young talents looking up to him as a mentor and they take in what he throws at them, because he is trending after all. Which is not good. The ´Zaidi´ singer reminds Pozze that we are Africans and whether contemporary or traditional, our culture and traditions remain and ought to be respected. Her last words to the controversial Kenyan artist is that he needs to find some direction, whether secular or Gospel, it is fine, but he needs to do it the right way. Reminding him that Kenyans can only go so far before having enough of his confusion and publicity stunts. Interview Unajua, vitu za Mungu, whether we like it or not, hatuwezi shinda tunachafua...

Is there anyone pleased with Willy Paul’s new song Lamba Nyonyo? Kenyans have been rebuking the singer after he released the song because it’s one of the trashiest music a Kenyan has ever released. The song, which is almost a copypaste of Lamba Lolo from Ethic, is not anywhere close to a gospel song. Octopizzo took to social media to join thousands of others talking about Willy Paul’s song. Immature Like many other the rapper also rebuked him after the song questioning whether Willy is born again or just possessed. Octo also believes the singer is very immature. ‘Sisi sio kama wasee wengine, sijui lamba nyonyo, hii niya ukweli sio photoshop, kwanza hii raia ya kulamba nyonyo.hukumaliza kunyoya nini? unafaa vibare, acha nirudi mtaani zikushikishe uokoke mara mbili”

Just like the norm, soon after his passing away, a woman alleging to be the late Kibra MP Ken Okoh´s wife emerges with a 5 year-old son. As family is caught up concerning burial rites, place and approach, the woman comes out demanding to be recognized prior to the late MP´s final rites. As reported by ´The Star´ the woman claims that Ken´s close allies and family are familiar with the 5-year old boy. However, the publication notes that the late MP´s wife, Monica Okoth was against the boy´s recognition in public. According to Monica, she declined having the boy mentioned in Okoth´s funeral announcement during its publishing on the Wednesday newspaper. A close family member identifies that the late Kibra MP had informed them that the boy was his own. Both the paternal and maternal grandparents have met the child and have lived with him for days. Ken loved the son very much and there is nothing in question. Contrary, Okoth´s mother had earlier insisted to the public that the MP had sired no child with another woman, therefore dismissing the reports of her grandson as false. Ken did not sire any child. I know many women will come out to claim they have at least a child with Ken.
