Award-winning Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has been the talk of the town over the last few days after releasing a rather controversial song. Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares The jam titled Wajinga Nyinyi, which loosely translates to you fools, calls on Kenyans to rise up against vices such as corruption, tribalism, nepotism, favoritism and what have you. In the song, which has so far crossed the 1 million views mark on YouTube, King Kaka tells Kenyans to avoid divisive politics and picking candidates not on the basis of merit but because they belong to the same tribe. He also mentions various leaders who have been charged with corruption such as; Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu. King Kaka further lambastes Kenyans, including clerics, for showering corrupt leaders with praise rather than telling them the truth. Everything is on point, from the lyricism to the beat to the video. For starters, we must agree that these guys have impeccable wordplay and witty rhymes. For instance, there is a part where Tirand Rands says, “Nabonga chafu ni kama nimemeza duster, rungu strong cd yangu huwa plaster.” What! To add to that, he has deep bass somewhat like Odi Wa Murang’a from Boondocks Gang so much that if you listen to this song for the first time on radio you would easily mistake him for the latter and no one would even blame you. Harry Craze, who is known for the “Si unajua tu ni nani” phrase also did a decent job. His flow is really dope and it’s likely that you will love his verse more than the rest but then again maybe that’s just me. That was long before he battled drug addiction and had to take a break. This song just flows and if you are a fan of the guy like myself then I’m sure you will have it on your playlist for a long time. The beat for this jam is also commendable. Award-winning Tanzanian rapper Sharif Thabit Ramadhan, better known as Darassa, has dropped a new track with Harmonize and it’s getting a lot of love from their fans. As expected, Darassa came through with dope wordplay and witty rhymes. To add to that, there’s the fact that he has great punchlines and you just want to keep listening to him. This guy’s creativity is on another level. To be honest, I don’t think there is a Tanzanian artist whose rap prowess can be compared to that of this guy but that’s a story for another day. Harmonize also brought his A-game. There’s a way that he spices up this song that words can’t really explain. He and Darassa sound so good together it as if they were meant for each other.
